Locomotype is an independent type foundry designing original retail typefaces and custom lettering for brands, publications and products in motion. Every family starts as pencil sketches and ends as a font engineered to hold up at any size, in any language it's asked to speak.
/ philosophy
Legibility first.
Character always.
A typeface is infrastructure. It has to work quietly in a paragraph and hold its own on a billboard. I design for that range first, then let personality come from the details: a cut terminal, a slight overshoot, a stroke that doesn’t apologize for itself.
Most families begin as a commission or a personal itch, a shape I kept redrawing until it needed a full character set. Retail fonts and client work feed each other: commercial constraints sharpen the library, and the library is the proof of range that brings the commercial work in.

Sketch
Letterforms start on paper, testing rhythm, stress and a few signature details before anything touches a screen.

Draw
Vectorized, spaced and tested across a full pangram and a wall of real layouts, not just isolated letters.

Expand
The core weight grows into a family: interpolated masters, italics, and language support for Latin Extended.
04
Release
Hinted, kerned and QA’d for web and desktop use, then shipped to the store with a full specimen and license.
