End User License Agreement (EULA)
Locomotype Type Foundry — Font Software License
Which licenses apply to you. This Agreement describes the terms of all license types offered by Locomotype. The specific license type(s) and usage tier(s) that you have purchased and that govern your permitted use are listed on your order confirmation and invoice. Only the license types shown on your order apply to you. |
1. Definitions
“Font Software” means the digital font files supplied by Locomotype (including OTF, TTF, WOFF, WOFF2, and any accompanying files), together with their design, outline data, and related documentation.
“Licensee”, “you” means the individual or legal entity that purchased the license, or the individual or legal entity to whom a license has been transferred under Section 7.3.
“Locomotype”, “we”, “us” means the Locomotype type foundry, the licensor and owner of the Font Software.
“License” means the specific permission granted to you for a particular use, at the tier you purchased, as shown on your order.
“Tier” means the usage volume band (e.g. number of users, pageviews, titles, impressions, or downloads) you selected at purchase.
2. Grant of License
Subject to your payment of the applicable fee and your compliance with this Agreement, Locomotype grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide license to use the Font Software for the license type(s) and within the tier(s) shown on your order, and for no other use.
This is a license, not a sale. Locomotype retains all ownership of, and intellectual property rights in, the Font Software.
3. License Types
Locomotype offers the following license types. The scope of each is summarized below; the type(s) you purchased are shown on your order.
License | Permits use of the Font in… | Metered by |
Desktop | Installation on computers and use in design software to create static artwork — logos, print, packaging, merchandise, and rasterized images for web/social. | Number of users (seats) |
Web Font | Embedding on websites via @font-face / CSS so the Font renders as live text. | Monthly pageviews |
ePub | Embedding in digital publications: e-books, digital magazines, and interactive PDFs. | Number of titles |
Digital Ads | Embedding in HTML5 banners and other dynamic digital advertisements served on third-party sites. | Ad impressions |
App | Embedding within applications for iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, and other operating systems. | App downloads |
3.1 Desktop License
Permits installation of the Font Software on computers and its use within design and office applications to create static artwork and documents. The number of users (seats) permitted corresponds to the tier you purchased. Rasterized (non-editable) images of the Font may be used on websites, social media, and in static digital files.
3.2 Web Font License
Permits embedding of the provided web font files (WOFF/WOFF2) on websites using @font-face / CSS so the Font renders as live, selectable text. Permitted monthly pageviews correspond to the tier you purchased. You may not allow third parties to download the Font Software as installable desktop files from your site.
3.3 ePub License
Permits embedding of the Font Software in digital publications such as e-books, digital magazines, and interactive PDFs. The number of titles (distinct publications) permitted corresponds to the tier you purchased.
3.4 Digital Ads License
Permits embedding of the Font Software in HTML5 banners and other dynamic digital advertisements served on third-party websites and ad networks for the duration of the campaign. The number of ad impressions permitted corresponds to the tier you purchased.
3.5 App License
Permits embedding of the Font Software within software applications for desktop and mobile operating systems (including iOS, Android, Windows, and Linux). The number of app downloads permitted corresponds to the tier you purchased.
4. Usage Tiers and Upgrades
Each license is limited to the tier you purchased. If your usage grows beyond your current tier (for example, more users, pageviews, titles, impressions, or downloads), you must purchase an upgrade to the appropriate tier before exceeding the limit. Contact Locomotype to arrange an upgrade.
5. Permitted Use
- Use the Font Software for the purchased license type(s), within the purchased tier(s).
- Make a reasonable number of backup copies of the Font Software for your own archival purposes.
- Embed the Font Software in final documents or products consistent with your license type (e.g. embedding a subset in a PDF for a Desktop license).
- Modify the Font Software for your own internal use where permitted, provided modified files remain subject to this Agreement and are not redistributed.
6. Restrictions
Except as expressly permitted by the license type(s) you purchased, you may not:
- Sell, sublicense, rent, lend, give away, or otherwise transfer or redistribute the Font Software to any third party, except as permitted under Section 7.
- Share the Font Software across more users, devices, or organizations than your tier permits, including between separate legal entities, except as permitted under Section 7.
- Convert the Font Software for use beyond your purchased license type (for example, using Desktop files as web fonts, in apps, or in ads).
- Upload, host, or make the installable Font Software available for download by third parties.
- Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or ownership notices in the Font Software.
- Reverse-engineer the Font Software to create a competing product, or claim authorship of the typeface design.
7. Contractors, Agencies, and Client Work
7.1 Client-provided licenses
If you are the Licensee and you engage a contractor, agency, or freelancer to work on your behalf, you may provide the Font Software to them, provided they use it solely for your licensed project, they comply with this Agreement, and they delete or return the Font Software upon completion of the work. You remain responsible for their compliance. The Font Software must not be retained by the contractor for their own or other clients’ use.
7.2 Agency-purchased licenses
If you are a design agency, studio, freelancer, or other contractor purchasing a license to complete work for a client, you may use the Font Software to deliver that project including deploying Web Font, App, ePub, or Digital Ads Licenses on infrastructure, domains, or accounts owned by that client provided:
- the use is limited to the specific client project for which the license was purchased;
- the tier purchased covers that client’s actual usage (e.g. pageviews, impressions, downloads);
- you do not use the same license to serve unrelated clients or projects; and
- you remain the Licensee of record and responsible for compliance with this Agreement, unless the license is transferred under Section 7.3.
7.3 License Transfer
A license purchased under this Agreement may be transferred to another individual or legal entity (for example, from an agency to its client) by written notice to Locomotype at contact@locomotype.com identifying the order, the original Licensee, and the new Licensee. Upon Locomotype’s written confirmation, the new Licensee becomes the Licensee under this Agreement for that license, subject to its original license type and tier, and the original Licensee’s rights under that license terminate. Locomotype may decline a transfer request or ask for verification at its discretion.
8. Ownership and Intellectual Property
The Font Software and the typeface designs it embodies are the intellectual property of Locomotype and are protected by copyright and other laws. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by Locomotype. The artwork, websites, applications, and other products you create using the Font Software remain yours; this Agreement concerns only the Font Software itself.
9. Term and Termination
This Agreement is effective from the date of purchase and continues unless terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach any of its terms. Upon termination, you must stop using and delete all copies of the Font Software. Termination does not entitle you to a refund, and does not limit Locomotype’s other remedies.
10. Limited Warranty and Disclaimer
Locomotype warrants that, for 30 days from delivery, the Font Software will be free from material defects in the files as supplied. Your exclusive remedy is replacement of, or a refund for, the defective Font Software. Except for this limited warranty, the Font Software is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Locomotype’s total liability arising out of or relating to this Agreement shall not exceed the amount you paid for the License. Locomotype shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill.
12. General
This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Locomotype regarding the Font Software and supersedes any prior understandings. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Locomotype may update the terms applicable to future purchases; the terms applicable to your purchase are those in effect at the time of your order.

Locomotype Type Foundry — Free Font Software License
Which license applies to you. This Agreement describes the terms of the free license types offered by Locomotype: 100% Free, Trial, and Desktop Only. The specific License Type that applies to a given Font Software is shown on its product page and in the license summary displayed with that font. Only the License Type shown for the font you downloaded applies to you. This Agreement is a companion to, and should be read alongside, the Locomotype EULA v1.0, which governs Desktop, Web Font, ePub, Digital Ads, and App licenses available for purchase. |
1. Definitions
“Font Software” means the digital font files supplied by Locomotype free of charge (including OTF, TTF, WOFF, WOFF2, and any accompanying files), together with their design, outline data, and related documentation. Font Software supplied under a Trial License may contain a limited character set, as specified on the relevant product page.
“Licensee, you” means the individual or legal entity that downloaded and uses the Font Software.
“Locomotype, we, us” means the Locomotype type foundry, the licensor and owner of the Font Software.
“License Type” means one of 100% Free, Trial, or Desktop Only, as indicated on the product page and license summary for the specific Font Software.
“Full License” means a Desktop, Web Font, ePub, Digital Ads, or App license available for purchase under the Locomotype EULA v1.0.
2. Grant of License
Subject to your compliance with this Agreement, Locomotype grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use the Font Software for the License Type shown on the product page, and for no other use.
This is a license, not a sale. Locomotype retains all ownership of, and intellectual property rights in, the Font Software.
3. License Types
Locomotype offers the following free license types. The scope of each is summarized below and in the sections that follow; the type that applies to a specific font is shown on its product page.
License | Permits use of the Font in… | Character Set | Commercial Use |
100% Free | Any medium — print, web (@font-face), apps, ePub, digital ads — without restriction on delivery method. | Full | Yes |
Trial | Any medium, for personal, non-commercial projects only. | Limited (see product page) | No |
Desktop Only | Installation on computers and use in design software to create static artwork — logos, print, packaging, merchandise, and rasterized images for web/social. | Full | Yes, within desktop scope |
3.1 100% Free License
Permits use of the Font Software for personal or commercial purposes, in any medium including print, web embedding via @font-face, apps, ePub, and digital advertising without restriction on the type of project or delivery method, subject to Section 6 (Restrictions).
3.2 Trial License
Permits use of the Font Software for personal, non-commercial projects only, in any medium, including web embedding via @font-face, apps, print, and other digital or physical output. Font Software supplied under a Trial License contains a limited character set, as specified on the product page.
Any commercial use of Trial Font Software, regardless of medium, requires a Full License under the Locomotype EULA v1.0. See Section 7 (Upgrading to a Full License).
3.3 Desktop Only License
Permits installation of the Font Software on computers and its use within design and office applications to create static artwork and documents, for personal or commercial purposes. Rasterized (non-editable) images of the Font may be used on websites, social media, and in static digital files, consistent with the scope of a Desktop License under Section 3.1 of the Locomotype EULA v1.0.
Unlike a purchased Desktop License, use under this free License Type is not metered by number of users. The Font Software may not be converted for use as a Web Font, or embedded in apps, ePub publications, or digital ads. A Full License is required for those uses. See Section 7 (Upgrading to a Full License).
4. Permitted Use
- Use the Font Software consistent with its License Type, as described in Section 3.
- Make a reasonable number of backup copies of the Font Software for your own archival purposes.
- Embed the Font Software in final documents or products consistent with your License Type (for example, embedding a subset in a PDF under a Desktop Only or 100% Free license).
- Modify the Font Software for your own internal use where permitted, provided modified files remain subject to this Agreement and are not redistributed.
5. Restrictions
Except as expressly permitted by your License Type, you may not:
- Sell, sublicense, rent, lend, give away, or otherwise transfer or redistribute the Font Software to any third party, except as permitted under Section 6.
- Use Trial Font Software for any commercial purpose, or for the benefit of a commercial client, regardless of medium.
- Convert or embed Desktop Only or Trial Font Software as a Web Font, or within apps, ePub publications, or digital ads, without a Full License.
- Upload, host, or make the installable Font Software available for download by third parties, including on font-sharing or free-font aggregator sites.
- Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or ownership notices in the Font Software.
- Reverse-engineer the Font Software to create a competing product, or claim authorship of the typeface design.
6. Contractors, Agencies, and Client Work
If you use Font Software licensed under a 100% Free or Desktop Only License to complete work for a client, you may deliver that work to the client consistent with the scope of that License Type, provided you remain responsible for the client’s compliance with this Agreement and the Font Software itself is not transferred to or retained by the client as an installable file outside that scope.
Trial Font Software may be used by a contractor, agency, or freelancer for internal concepting, pitching, or mockups only. Trial Font Software may not appear in any final deliverable provided to a client, and may not be used on a client’s behalf for any commercial purpose. A Full License is required before Trial Font Software or a corresponding Full License typeface, may be used in commercial client work.
7. Upgrading to a Full License
If your intended use falls outside the scope of your License Type for example, commercial use of a Trial font, or web/app/ePub/ad use of a Desktop Only or Trial font, you must purchase the corresponding Full License under the Locomotype EULA v1.0 before that use begins.
Contact contact@locomotype.com to arrange an upgrade. Upon purchase, the Locomotype EULA v1.1 governs your use of the Font Software for the license type(s) and tier(s) you purchase; this Agreement continues to apply to any use that remains within your original free License Type.
This Agreement is effective from the date you download or install the Font Software and continues unless terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach any of its terms. Upon termination, you must stop using and delete all copies of the Font Software. Termination does not limit Locomotype’s other remedies.
10. Disclaimer of Warranty
The Font Software is provided free of charge, “as is”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Locomotype’s total liability arising out of or relating to this Agreement shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Font Software (being zero). Locomotype shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill.
12. General
This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Locomotype regarding the free Font Software and supersedes any prior understandings. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Locomotype may update the terms applicable to future downloads; the terms applicable to your download are those in effect at the time you obtained the Font Software.
